A patio is where you spend the season in Dubuque. Sunset over the Mississippi from a back deck in the West End, a cold drink with neighbors in Asbury, dinner with the family in Peosta or Cascade. Done right, a concrete patio gives you a low-maintenance outdoor room that holds up to Tri-State winters for 25+ years. Done wrong, it cracks in three winters and sits forgotten.

What we build

  • Plain broom-finish patios (clean, modern, low-cost)
  • Stamped concrete patios (slate, random stone, plank, brick, fan)
  • Exposed-aggregate patios (texture without a stamp)
  • Acid-stained or integral-color finishes
  • Patios with integrated fire pits, seat walls, planters, or pillars
  • Hot tub pads (5–6″ thick, engineered for static load)
  • Patio extensions onto existing slabs (clean cold-joint tie-in)
  • Retaining-wall + patio combinations for hillside lots

Hillside patios: drainage matters more than you think

Dubuque homes on a grade need a drainage plan, not just a slope. On a steep lot, water from the uphill side will sit against the patio edge in a heavy rain, freeze, and lift the concrete. We add a French drain along the high side, slope the patio to a downhill edge, and (where the grade allows) tie to a daylight outlet or buried catch basin. This is built into the quote, not an upcharge surprise.

Quality Concrete Built Tough

Patios are where bad finishing shows fastest. We do not pour patios on Fridays at 3pm. We assign the finisher who is best at decorative work, and we cut joints within 24 hours, every time.

FAQs

Concrete Patios questions.

How much does a concrete patio cost in Dubuque? +

Plain broom-finish patios in the Dubuque area run $8–$12 per square foot installed. Stamped patios run $14–$22 per square foot. A typical 16×16 patio (256 sq ft) lands in the $2,200–$3,500 range for plain broom or $4,000–$6,500 for stamped.

What size patio should I build? +

For a 6-person dinner table + chairs, plan for 14×14 minimum (196 sq ft). For dinner + a separate sitting area, plan 18×18 (324 sq ft). Adding a fire pit zone? Plan an extra 8-foot radius. We sketch the layout on-site and walk you through traffic flow before we quote.

Can my patio drain off a hillside lot? +

Yes. We slope patios 1/8″ to 1/4″ per foot away from the home. On steep Dubuque hillside lots in Asbury, Cardiff Heights, or Galena IL, we often add a French drain along the high side or a trench drain across the downhill edge. Drainage is built into the bid, not an upcharge surprise.

How thick does a residential patio need to be? +

4 inches of 4,000 PSI air-entrained concrete on a 4–6″ compacted Class 5 base is the residential standard. Patios supporting a hot tub need 5–6″ with reinforced rebar. We will spec correctly for what you are putting on the slab.

Can you build a fire pit or seat wall into the patio? +

Yes. We build poured-in-place concrete seat walls, integrated fire pits, planters, and pillars as part of the patio pour. Adds about $1,500–$5,000 depending on scope. We coordinate with your propane or gas installer for plumbed fire features.

How long until I can use my new patio? +

Light foot traffic in 24–48 hours. Set up patio furniture and grills after 5–7 days. Full design strength at 28 days; we recommend waiting on heavy planters or hot tubs until then.
